Most bike manufacturers use aluminium pistons in their calipers, which are lightweight and cheap on mass production but they conduct too much heat into the hydraulic system, affecting performance under extreme conditions.
Addiction Motorsport Ltd offer a solution with their advanced titanium pistons designed for Brembo calipers, which are created to withstand high temperatures, reduce thermal conductivity and hold piston shape.
Our piston design is based on MotoGP caliper pistons that are used with ceramic discs that produce much greater temperature compare with steel discs.
They are thicker right at the top of the piston for extra strength with 16x vents of 2mm Dia each, just as you could find on top of the range Brembo callipers fitted with titanium pistons.
Also our piston surface is highly polished to minimise the drag of fluid seal while braking and making the piston to retract with easy once braking pressure is released. This helps with breaking power control specially on trail braking into the corner and not heaving pads dragging on the discs once braking pressure is released. All of this helps keeping the system run cooler as we all know dragging pads on discs produce heat.
The graph below clearly shows the thermal conductivity difference between aluminium, titanium and stainless steel – another common metal used for pistons – with titanium conducting just of 6.7-7.5 W/mk.
All of these features keep the braking system cooler and more stable, even during intense track and race use.
Upgrading to Addiction Motorsport’s titanium pistons enhances braking consistency, delivering reliable performance where standard aluminum pistons fall short.
